The 2018 Bentley Bentayga V8 has been revealed and detailed, joining the W12 and Diesel variants in the British luxury crossover’s line-up.
Following the leaked US documents last week revealing its existence, the Bentley Bentayga V8 slots in between the entry-level Bentayga Diesel and flagship Bentayga W12.
At the heart of the Bentayga V8 is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 shared with the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo, pumping out a meaty 404kW of power at 6000rpm and 770Nm of torque between 1960 and 4500rpm.
Drive is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission sourced from ZF, with a 40:60 front-to-rear torque split.
Bentley claims the V8 Bentayga can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 290km/h. As a reference, the W12 manages the benchmark sprint in 4.1 seconds, and has a top whack rated at 301km/h.
Fuel consumption is rated at 11.4L/100km on the combined European cycle.
Inside, the Bentayga V8 debuts the high-gloss carbon-fibre interior trims, along with a new three-spoke wood and hide steering wheel.
Additionally, buyers now also have the option of a new Cricket Ball red leather, inspired by the deep chestnut hue of a new cricket ball.
Like the wider Bentayga range, the V8 is available in four-, five- and seven-seat configurations.
Another new option debuting with the Bentayga V8 is the company’s carbon-ceramic braking system. Claimed to include the largest front brakes available on any production car, the optional discs measure 440mm at the front and 370mm at the rear.
Together with the 10-piston front calipers, the brakes have a claimed braking torque of 6000Nm. In saying that, the standard 400mm front and 380mm rear ventilated iron discs seem sufficient, right?
The Bentayga V8’s standard brakes can also be optioned with red-painted calipers for the first time, again hinting at the model’s more sporting personality compared to other variants.
